THE HUMAN BODY IS A LIVING SACRIFICE TO GOD
Our Bodies is a living sacrifice to God. Paul specifically and boldly emphasized on the body and not our heart, so we are going to look closely what the body means to God.
Rom.12:1-2 "I beseech you therefore, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God which is your reasonable service". When you offer something to God, it doesn`t come back to you anymore because it is a sacrifice that you have offered to God.
These are a few examples of the old Testament sacrifices to God (Gen.22:1-2). Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice to God, then the daughter of Jephthah as sacrifice to God (Judges 11:13-34).In both cases, the parents offered their children to God without hindrance. As suggested in (Exo.29:38)."Now this is what you shall offer on the altar two lambs a year old day by day continually". This means that sacrifice is offered on daily basis forever.
So in the New Testament our bodies is an offering that we offer as sacrifice to God. (Rom.12:1-2; Rom.6:1-3; Eph.4:24)." And be not conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God"."For you are God`s fellow workers; you are God`s field, you are God`s building "(1Cor.3:9). "Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the spirit of dwells in you?. If anyone defile the temple God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are".(1Cor.3:16).
The Bible says that, we are not for our own Rom.8:10 and what agreement has the temple of God with idols for you are the temple of the living God as God has said; I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be my people (1Cor.6:16).
Now we are about to look at what defiles the BODY/the TEMPLE
1. JEWELRY; Anything that starts from Genesis never passes away. The issue of jewelry starts from (Genesis 35:1-4). Then God said to Jacob, "Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there and make an alter there to God who appeared to you when you fleed from the face of Esau your brother". "And Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, put away the foreign gods that are among you, purify yourselves and change your garments, then let us arise and go up to Bethel; And I will make an alter there to God, who answered in the day of my distress and had been with me in the way which I have gone". So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods which were in their hands, and the earrings which were in their ears, and Jacob hid them under the Terebinth tree which was by Shechem. So, it`s not a sin? To wear earrings to the house of God...?.
One day the Lord asked the Israelites that, "what are doing, you who have been plundered? Why do you dress up in beautiful clothing and put on gold jewelry? Why do you brighten your eyes with Mascara? Your primping will do you no good! The allies who were your lovers despise you and seek to kill you".(Jeremiah 4:30).
Something that I want you to know is that any word of God that are written in the book of Genesis never passes away. These are the examples;
God, Life, Death
Satan, Sin, Covenant
Promise, Tithe, Atonement sacrifice
Offering, Forgiveness etc. So all these things began in Genesis and have never passed away. The same as wearing of earrings to the presence of God. (Genesis 35:1-4)
What does Jewelry mean?
Jewels are precious stones used to decorate valuable things that we wear, such as rings, necklaces, earrings etc.
If you describe something or someone as a jewel, you mean that thing or person is better, more beautiful or more special than other similar ones.If you refer to achievement or thing as jewel in someone`s crown,it means that it is considered to be their greatest achievement or something they can be most proud of.
What did Jacob tell his household? (Gen.35:1-4) He told them to remove their foreign gods that are with them and they gave all their foreign gods to Jacob including their earrings, here is the question,is it a sin to wear earrings to the house of God? Yes it is, if not why did they remove their earrings? Or is its part of the foreign gods? Or does it makes them unclean to God? My view is that wearing jewels to the house of God makes one unclean before the Lord God.
This is the reason why God told Moses to tell the Israelite's that, they should remove their ornaments before He would know what to do to them (Exo.33:4-6). When the Israelite's continued to disobey God He pronounced judgement against them in (Isaiah 3:16-26), God used the word haughty to describe the Israelite's and haughty means behaving in an arrogant and superior way towards other people.
Jewels make people who wear them to be enslaved to Satan (Exo.21:4-6; Deu.15:12) especially earrings. Jesus said in John 15:15 NLT "I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn`t confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the father told me". And bond slaves were the ones who wore earrings for their masters
Some preachers use these quotations to support their arguments that wearing jewels is not a sin. (Gen.24:22-24; 41:37-42; Ezk.16:9; Matt.2:11-12; Luk.15:22-23). Now in the new testament the Bible speaks about modest dressing, which also speaks against wearing costly attire and jewels (1Pet.3:3-4; 1Tim.2:9). The reason why I am throwing this challenge is that the church on earth is military church. We are in the battle front how do we enjoy life like the worldly people, the triumphant saints are now enjoying in Heaven.
ABOUT CLOTHING
The Bible talks about modest dressing (1Pet.3:3; 1Tim.2:9) , some of the Pastors say that, if wearing jewels or fixing of hair is a sin; we shouldn`t wear clothing because they are all attachment. But that argument is incorrect because God himself made animal skin clothing for Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. (Gen.3:21).
Clothing for the Priests( Exo.28:1-5). Exodus 28 is the instructions God gave to Moses, how his priests should dress to come before Him.
The reasons why God gave all these instructions to the Priests are:
1. To make them Holy to God (Exo.28:2)
2. To make them glorious (Exo.28:2)
3. To make them beautiful (Exo.28:2)
4. To make them different among people and all nations (Exo.33:16)
5. To cover their nakedness before God (Exo.28:42). "And you shall make for them linen Trousers to cover their nakedness; they shall reach from the waist to the thighs".
6. That they not incur iniquity and die. "It shall be a status forever to him and his descendants after him". (Exo.28:43)
So all this shows that our physical appearance is very important to God. That`s why he asked the Israelite's; why do you dress up in beautiful clothing? (Jer.4:30). The moment you divert from this instruction, you become disobedient to God and a friend of this world making you an enemy to God (James 4:4).
This is the reason why the New Testament also talks about modest dressing (1Tim.2:9; 1Pet.3:3). John also said we shouldn`t love the world (1John 2:15) God sees all these things as worldly things that come from Satan. And improper dressing causes people to sin in their hearts which is equal to a form of prostitution. (Matt.5:27-28; Luk.17:1-2). All these attitudes spring from our hearts and God sees them as sin (Matt.15:19-20).
